The above statements hold opposing beliefs about whether school or parents should play a role in teaching the kids to be a good member of the society.
In some people’s opinion, children should be taught by their parents rather than school to be good members of society. Certainly, this is plausible in some aspects, for example, then it’s know to all of us that parents are the teacher for children. Furthermore, since kids grow up with parents, there is no doubt that parents are the ones who know their kids better than anyone. In this way, the teaching from parents who know them well can be much effective to the kids. In addition, parents should bear the most responsibility to not only care about but also educate their children. Lastly, it’s impressive for kids to learn the lessons from their parents instead of teacher, since they may not care about what teachers say.
For the other view that considers the school to be a better role to teach kids, it holds in some conditions. To be more specific, the time that the kids stay with school is in fact much longer than that they stay with their parents, since children spend most of daytime in school and the rest of the day is largely used for sleeping. Moreover, the school is like a small society, where children try to learn how to get alone with each other. Therefore, under this background, teaching by school can be useful and applied, strengthening the understanding of a society and how to be a good member of it.
In my own opinion, teaching kids to be good members of society purely done by either parents or school is not realistic and effective. Since parents are not with their children all the time, it’s possible their teaching has limited effects on their kids’ learning. Besides, it’s unreasonable for the school to take the whole responsibility over the kids from their parents because they don’t have a duty to do that. One of the possible approaches is to combine the effort of both school and parents to teach the kids about the society.
