Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Distance learning and online computer classes should replace classroom learning.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Today, face to face classroom learning is remarkably important and it is almost impossible to completely replace it with online lessons without a loss in quality. That happens mainly for two reasons.
First, having a teacher in front of you and a correct classroom in which listening to lessons is a huge advantage for academical scopes. For instance, when a student has some doubts about a particular topic or simply wants to analyze better an aspect of the lecture, he is always free to go and have a talk with the professor during and after the lesson. Doing this will surely helps him to develop passion and more interest for the subject. Moreover, especially when labs are concerned, attending to the lectures in the right infrastructures is a huge advantage. As a matter of fact, it helps pupils to see the practical aspects of what they are studying and, moreover, it is good to improve their manual skills in general.
In addition, attending in presence is also fundamental to socialize and create a network between students. Attending to a school and, moreover, to a university is a big occasion for pupils to make some friends and to find people with common interests. This fact is of course important at primary and at high school since having friends helps children to grow faster and happier, but it becomes fundamental when talking of university students. Behind the entertainment aspect, creating networks it is a huge benefit for their future working careers since it would help them to find a job or just some inspiration.
However, there are some exceptions to this view. One could be made for top level athletes who are sure that their life will consist primarily in sport. Nowadays sport is seen as a limitation to academic career, but people who would like to do study and competitive activity at the same time should be helped and encouraged. Doing online lessons and exams would be a huge opportunity for these people who must travel a lot in order to train and attend to competitions.
In conclusion, many aspects of physical lessons are dramatically lost when the lectures are turned into registrations to watch on a PC individually. The main drawbacks concern both academic and personal interest since not only students would be less motivated to learn, but also they would lose the occasion to make some new friends and to share their passions with them.
