Your friend needs help and you need to take a day off at your work to help him/her. Write a letter to your manager about the following.
Why and when do you need to take a day off
How will you compensate for the time you took as a day off
Dear John,
I am writing to inform you about my need to take a day off. I will not demand it in this week because I know there is a deadline to meet on saturday. Please grant it on next monday, 21st of January.
Let me explain my situation in detail. There is a friend of mine, who lives in other city and her delivery based on C-section is scheduled in the evening of coming saturday. Unfortunately, her husband employer booked his ticket to France for a meeting. She also has no family to take care of her. I have to left just after office hours and reach to her to take her hospital, it will be 2 hours drive from here.
I know that you will concern about making up my time for this day off. Well, I want to tell you that I am willing to reimburse my absence time by doing 2 hours overtime per day in the next week.
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks for your anticipation.
Yours sincerely,
Arfa Jabeen
