Task 1: The three pictures below show three different kinds of bridges. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagrams illustrate three different types of bridges.
Overall, the design of the bridges differs through their height and the use of piers. The most suitable for specific locations , such as lakes, rivers, seas.
The arch bridge is constructed to cross small waterways, such as lakes, and it has a maximum of 200 meters, height no more than 100 meters , only permits small ships under it. In contrast, the concrete girder bridges used to cross larger than arch bridges, such as rivers, with height no more than 300 meters. However, there is no limit to the number of piers.
Finally, at sea, suspension bridges permit large ships , because of the deep water which they span. The piers can be between 400 and 2000 meters - up to 10 times the distance between piers of the concrete girder bridge or the arches bridge .
