The given graph illustrates the amount of CO2 generated per individual in 4 European countries over 40 years. Overall, while Italy and Portugal experienced an increase in the amount of CO2, the UK and Sweden saw a downward tendency. In addition, The UK always had the highest percentage over the shown period.
According to the graph, the UK and Sweden followed a descending trend during the given time. In Sweden, at the beginning of the given period, there was remarkable growth, and in 1977, it reached its peak at more than 10%. After the first decade, it went into free-fall in the next 30 years. In 2007, it stood at less than 6%. Meanwhile, the UK started as the country with the highest percentage (about 11%). Throughout the time frame, it dropped gradually to approximately 9%. This minor dip, however, failed to get the UK out of the top spot. It remained the country with the highest percentage of CO2 emitted per person at the end of the period.
On the contrary, Italy and Portugal experienced an upward trend. As presented in the graph, from 1967 to 1997, Portugal and Italy increased significantly from 1% and 4% to 5% and 8%, respectively. In the last decade, these two countries showed a stable trend.
