The table compares how people spent their money on a variety of food categories in Italy between 1992 and 2012.
Overall, there was a general increase in the spending on all types of food, except for coffee, during the period given. Also, it can be clearly seen that money was majorly spent on beef and chicken.
In 1992, beef accounted for the largest share in expenditure, with the spending up to 45 million euros, following which, the figure for chicken was lower – 38 million euros. Among six foodstuffs, people in Italy spent only 8 million euros on butter (or margarine), making it the least purchased.
From 2002 to 2012, the amount of expenditure on the given types of food went up steadily, marked by the number of 56 million euros which was spent on chicken. Additionally, potatoes and milk experienced a similar growth in the spending amount; their numbers rose by 4 million euros to peak at 18 and 14 million euros in 2012. Noticeably, there was no fluctuation in the amount of money that Italian spent on coffee in the 10-year period, which remained at 7 million euros.
