The chart gives the percentage of the workforce by gender and type of job in the UK in 2005.
Overall, men tended to involve in managerial jobs such as skilled trades, senior officials, or professional occupations. Meanwhile, women were common in jobs like sales and customer service, administration, and personal service.
The most noticeable difference is illustrated in the skilled trades field, 20% of the workforce were males, compared to no more than 3% of females. The same pattern was seen for the proportion of process, plant, and machine operatives professions, about 12% of men’s involvement, compared to 2% of women’s. For every eighteen men employees in managers and senior officials, there were eleven females. There were more men (about 14%) employed as professionals than women (11%).
Over a fourfold percentage of female workers (around 22%) compared to males (5%) are administrators and secretaries. Additionally, women are seven times more likely than men to be employed in personal services. Surprisingly, elementary jobs such as labourers and catering assistants nearly had the same proportion. It was also true for associate professional and technical occupations.
