THE FORM OF MY POST STUDY CONTRIBUTIONS COMMITMENTS AND PLANS FOR INDONESIA

My studies, research and work experience related to linguistics and language pedagogy are overwhelmingly become a strong considerations for choosing courses and institutions. As an English education student Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in University of Gunung Rinjani (UGR), I have learnt teaching English and linguistics theoretically and practically. Apart from my study, I work at a community education institution called Focus study English (FSE). The abbreviation for focusing on English studies is a social institution that I built since early 2018 until today that is engaged in language and character education in Anjani Village, NTB. In this organization, I gained valuable skills and experience and unfortunately identified a problem related to inappropriate language teaching strategies where only applying a similar approach for different students comprehensional level.
Moreover, I also involved as a co-author in conducting an academic journal entitled Sasak Alus, such as Meno-Mene and Ngeno-Ngene Dialects which has been published by the University of Gunung Rinajni which collaboration with several international universities such as the University of Malaya Press in 2021 on the local dialect sounds produced. by certain people of Lombok islan. I have an ongoing problem dealing with the extinction of certain words and sounds. According to data from the West Nusa Tenggara Language Center, the use of the Sasak language, especially the alus language itself is recently beginning to decrease. As for the classification among young people, the use of Alus language is around 4% from 10%, while among the parents it reaches 6%. This means that there is a marked reduction in the use of the alus language itself. While the data obtained by the author from interviews with the Rarang Tengah village government, the use of the Alus language has greatly decreased when compare to the previous year.
Ironically, this alus variety is beginning to be abandon by Sasak speakers when communicating with their speech partners. According to the author's observations, this is also the case in a village which is also famous for its blue blood area who are using alus language in communication where the number of royal descendants dominates, silak medaran, ampure tang mamiq,(let eat, I am sory mamiq) so on. but ironically the use of the alus language is now starting to fade.
Indeed, Sasak alus itself is also part of the Sasak language, it's just that it is a special language that is also used in certain groups, for example among the nobility, or what is commonly called the language of the nobility, but its rhetoric is in accordance with some of the views of recent experts it is a lot of layers of society from children to parents who rarely use the alus language itself, as if the alus language has begun to become extinct. I really understand that I have to improve my knowledge to face the obstacles.
To solve those problems above, I decided to continue my master's study of General and Applied Linguistics at the Australian National University (ANU). In general, this course offers an in-depth discourse on linguistics and its applications. In particular, knowledge of language and social interaction, semantics and language teaching will form the basis of the skills I will acquire. Therefore, I hope to be a good researcher who is able to describe the socio-cultural influence
between language and its teaching strategies. In addition, ANU is recognized as a world-class university that not only provides reputable courses and a good academic atmosphere, but is also a great place to network globally. For this reason, I believe that it can boost my knowledge and expand my career to contribute in society.
Studying in Masters in General and Applied Linguistics at the Australian National University is the gateway to achieving my career expectations in the next 5 years as a linguistic researcher and education practitioner. Doing research related to language structure, typology, and sound is one way to make my contribution in solving language problems, such as the word extinction that occurred in Indonesia. In addition, this research will also expand my knowledge in understanding the correlation between language, human, social, geographical and cultural heritage in depth so that I can develop useful language research results in Lombok. This research demands a deep understanding of language studies research methods as well as knowledge of applied linguistics research design.
In addition, holding a Master's certificate in General and Applied Linguistics at the Australian National University as a world-class university, I will be able to create innovative language teaching approaches that can be used in 50 different communities under the guidance of the institution I build FSE as I do now. workplace. In addition, this course will give me a better understanding of the rules in training and education as a means of effective social education transformation. Most importantly, it will be a milestone for me to become a lecturer at a certain university in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Indonesia.
These two outstanding careers will certainly bring positive developments both at my institution, Focus study english (FSE), and in my area, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Based on all this demanding knowledge, I believe that continuing my studies at the Master of General and Applied Linguistics at The Australian National University which offers a comprehensive structure of linguistics subjects in terms of theory, practice and research will definitely propel my career as a linguistic researcher and practitioner education.
In 2018, I was involved in the establishment of a community institution focus study English (FSE) and at the same time as a member of the Association of Indonesian English Language and Literature Students (IKAMABSII). Indeed, all my experience in leadership such as leader of student english association in 2018 than become a leader of student executive in 2019-2020. Also as member of national university debating championship (NUDC) will be the stange to realize a language project and free courses in Anjani, NTB, Indonesia. Which aims to build character education through the use of language and community. As a long-term project, it needs full participation of all stakeholders in the village. However, at first this program was rejected by the village head because the dominant community was uneducated and the village head was afraid that the residents were not enthusiastic about being involved in this education program.
Importantly, the first step that must be taken is to strengthen relations with the community. With the permission of the village head, my team is determined to carry out various pilot projects involving villagers and projects organized by my three team groups. The first group engaged in entrepreneurship held training on mushroom cultivation. In educational activities, the second team taught English lessons to children, while the last team focused on environmental issues by picking up and recycling garbage in the village. For this reason, the entire team always tries to involve the community in every activity by inviting them directly as a direct campaign for our institution's programs. Furthermore, to run the program effectively, I organize the team based on their expertise and passion. I also ask the team to make progress reports and evaluate them in regular meetings. After 2 months, the community began to realize the positive impact of our project program and decided to be more involved in our program. This is the basic foundation for running this Community Development Institution.
I succeeded in establishing this Foster Institution which is still running today as a continuous program, has been developed in many other areas within 3 years. To further enhance community empowerment, the NTB Provincial Government has made this project a government priority program by providing office buildings, libraries, and computers.
The first practical way to apply the knowledge of linguistic nature and the valuable skills in language teaching that I have gained from this scholarship is through my assignments as an English teacher at FSE and and being a Mudabbir in several Islamic boarding schools. At the same time, as an additional way to transfer knowledge and apply my skills in language teaching, I will also volunteer to teach English to the children in my neighborhood. I believe that improving English language skills with these two activities is the right practical step to contribute to improving human development in Anjani, NTB, Indonesia. various dialects spoken in a small community in Rarang, East Lombok. Furthermore, these studies will become a forum for collaboration between me and the scientific network that I obtained from this scholarship to conduct linguistic research which aims not only to contribute to the development of linguistic subjects, but also to answer important linguistic problems in East Lombok.
Predictably, I will face some obstacles in terms of applying my knowledge and skills and making use of my global connections. First, funding for research and social programs is still difficult to come by because the Indonesian government allocates only a small amount of funds for research and social programs, particularly linguistics. Second, the lack of research and language teaching facilities is an obstacle to conducting innovative language research and teaching and also vital facilities, such as computers, projectors, and even internet connections are rare in Lombok villages. However, I will struggle to get funding to promote my social and research programs by applying for various aid or funding programs such as the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP).
