In many countries, children are engaged in some kind of paid work. Some people regard this as completely wrong, while others consider it as valuable work experience, important for learning and taking responsibility.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
In some countries, it is normal for children to work and earn money. However, there is much concerns over whether it is good or bad for children to be involved in such activity at such an early stage in their lives. In my opinion, although children can learn something through working, they are likely to pay more for that in terms of potential danger and are less likely to succeed than their peers in the long run.
First of all, working is dangerous for children themselves. For example, in Vietnam, children are found selling lottery tickets, delivering leaflets, cleansing shoes...in most big cities’ streets. On doing such things, they meet many types of people, and who knows if those are good or bad? Moreover, the problem is that children cannot fight for themselves in many cases. Instead, they need some kinds of protectors, who will in turns earn money for this “service”.
Secondly, working is not good for children’s development. Due to having less time for studying, for playing and having some rest. Children are more likely to be exhausted and more likely to fall behind their friends in class. In the long run, they would face much more difficulties in finding a sustainable job and living a stable life.
To sum up, I believe that the early stage of our lives must be engaged in safe and useful activities under parents’ patronage. Thus, take part in the workforce is too much for a child as a “life’s course”. Unless the family cannot earn money for themselves, children should by no means undertake this burden.
