Some technology provides smart cars
The author and the lecturer talk about smart cars. According to the reading passage, the author talks about the benefits of advanced automobiles. The lecturer, however, opposes the claims made by the writer.
First, the author talks about the reduction in car accidents. He says that smart cars will be equipped with a variety of sensors so it will help to prevent collisions on road. The professor refutes the idea. She says that some automatic cars have failed occasionally. Further, she adds that when highways will be more occupied with cars than accidents can even become worse because all these vehicles will closely follow each other.
Second, the writer mentions about the reduction in traffic problems and increase in commutation time. Evidently, if computer-controlled cars will follow each other and traffic regulations then it will definitely reduce traffic problems and also increase the highway speed. The lecturer denies the fact. She mentions that when people will start to opt the smart cars, the crowd will increase on the road, and it will decrease the car speed.
Lastly, the author says that automatic cars will cause a reduction in the cost of driving. Additionally, people will spend less on car maintenance because expensive items which are used in the vehicle are more reliable than other products.
The speaker opposes the statement. She says that even though parts of smart cars are more reliable and durable but if they get damaged then it will cost more than the repair and replacement of the unconventional vehicles. Consequently, it will not save money.
