Some people think that schools should reward students who show the best academic results, while others believe that it's more important to reward students who show improvements. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is true that the question of whether to reward students with excellent academic results or those showing great progress remains a source of controversy in the education field. While a number of people believe that only students achieving the highest grades deserve awards, I would argue that encouraging students who make improvements is much more reasonable.

On the one hand, there are a variety of reasons why awards should be given to students having outstanding academic performances. One inducement is that this could create a highly competitive studying environment, seeing that students often desire to win prizes. As a consequence, school students could be motivated to put their effort into studying for the best scores. Secondly, by applying this approach, gifted students could have more opportunities to nurture their abilities. Take my high school, for instance. They choose students with the best marks for extra classes to promote their abilities in order to get them involved in national or even international competitions.

On the other hand, I believe that giving compliments and rewards to those who make strides in their studies results in more favourable outcomes. The first benefit is that it could give equal opportunities to every student to receive scholarships, rather than only focus on the highest achievers. Instead of feeling disappointed when competing with their top classmates, students who are realised their efforts to achieve higher levels during semesters will feel more motivated. Futhermore, another viable advantage is that this form of recognition follows the holistic principle of learning, which is access the world of knowledge, not just to gain high scores. Consequently, several negative phenomena which occur when examinations approach, including pressure, anxiety and cheating, would be reduced.

In conclusion, although both approaches certainly have some validity, it seems to me that it is better to give rewards to students with meaningful advancement rather than only concentrate on the top students.
