What are the characteristics of a good teacher?
Teaching is one of the essential jobs around the globe. What makes a good teacher? The qualities of a good educator will be clarified in the following paragraphs with specific details and examples.
To begin with, good educators should be able to listen to and understand their students. Teachers are not just the people who give lectures but also the individuals who can listen to their students. The listening skills will provide the chance to understand their students perfectly and know more about their weak points in the courses. I have to admit that my opinion on this matter has been profoundly influenced by my own experience. You see, These days, I work as a full-time lecturer at the university. I have listened to many of my students during my work in this position. And every time I heard them, I knew more about them. What they want to learn, what they expect to gain at the end of this course, and most importantly, what their weak points are on this course. Eventually, I can assist them in overcoming these complicated subjects. As a result, a part of the teaching process is listening.
Secondly, a good lecturer is an excellent communicator. I strongly believe that good teachers should be able to communicate easily with their students. When it comes to effective teaching, strong communication skills are a must. Drawing from my own experience, I have taught a thermodynamic course during my work as a university lecturer. Many students feel that the thermodynamic course is challenging course. However, by communicating with students at the beginning of the year about how thermodynamic science applies to their future careers, the students could approach the subject in a more enjoyable way that better supported their learning.
Moreover, an excellent teacher is a good learner. Teachers should not stop learning. They should know more about their subject areas and learn more about teaching and communication methods. Expanding educators' knowledge is the only key to expanding their students' knowledge. For instance, at the beginning of each semester, I read many articles and watched videos about new communication methods.
In light of the reasons mentioned above, I firmly believe that a good teacher should have many traits, such as good communication skills, listening skills, and being a lifelong learner.
