Overall, the number of girls students per 100 boys students who come to different levels of education in developing and developed countries had an upward tendency from 1990 to 1998. However, the rate of girls students per boys students enrolled in tertiary education in developing countries has the lowest levels.
In 1990, the number of female students per 100 male students enrolled in primary, secondary and tertiary education in developing countries decreased dramatically from 83 percent to 66 percent, however, that of developed countries witnessed a significantly increased from 95 to 105. In tertiary education, developing countries had a number lower than the target while developing countries reached a peak at 105 which was over the target.
In 1998, the figure for developing countries started at 87 in primary school but the number of girls per 100 boys enrolled in primary school and tertiary school fall significantly to 82 and 75. In contrast, that of developed countries rose significantly from 96 and 99 in primary and secondary school, and it grew over the target which was 112.
