Cedar population
The author mentions three hypotheses advanced by scientists in order to explain the decline in the yellow cedar population. However, the lecture casts doubt on the hypothesis put forward by the author and doesn’t consider it adequate to explain the decreasing population.
Firstly, the author asserts that certain insects, mainly the cedar bark beetle, feed on the bark of trees during their larval stages, eventually killing the tree. But, the lecturer doesn't agree with this point and states that yellow cedar trees are mostly resistant to insect attacks as their bark releases chemicals to evade the insects. Hence, it is unlikely that insects have any role in killing them.
Second, the author points out that brown bears claw on cedar bark in order to obtain wood that is rich in sugar. However, the lecturer mentions that bears are only present on the mainland and not on islands, but the population of cedar is decreasing on islands as well. This indicates that bears are not responsible for the decline in tree populations.
Finally, the author puts forward an argument that, due to climatic changes, the root system of yellow cedar has become susceptible to frost damage. But, the lecturer refutes this point and states that lower elevations and less cold areas have witnessed more damaging trees as compared to the higher elevation areas, hence debunking the claim of the third hypothesis.

Better to have 5 paragraphs with 3 arguments. And try always support/against one side but compare two sides, like this:
para 1: introduction
para 2: reason 1. address both of the views presented for reason 1
para 3: reason 2. address both of the views presented for reason 2
para 4: reason 3. address both of the views presented for reason 3
para 5: conclusion.
So how to find out those reasons. There is a formula:
reasons == advantages or
reasons == disadvantages
for example, we can always apply 'save time', 'save/make money', 'find a job', 'make friends', 'get more information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
or we can apply 'waste time', 'waste money', 'no job', 'make bad friends', 'get bad information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
