In the second position, America had been visited by 93M persons, surpassing the number for Asia and the Pacific by 26M. Far below were Africa and the Middle East with just about 15M and 9.6M visitors respectively.
Subsequently, the entire variety of visitors increased to 704.3M in 2005, indicating an increase of approximately 240M. During the period shown, Europe always ranked first, soaring to shy of 400M international voyagers. The figure for Asia and the Pacific was doubled to 135.8M, giving it the second-place finish. Africa and the Middle East mirrored the upward shift despite modest increases to 28.3M and 27M respectively in 2005. The last country, America, peaked with 118.2M visitors in 2000 albeit with a slight decline to precisely 113M five years after.
