The table shows how many international students studies in Canada and the US by the country of origin.
The given table gives information on the number of international students from different countries choosing to study in the USA and Canada from 2002 to 2003.
Overall, more students chose the USA as their academic destination compared to Canada from 2002 to 2003, whereas Canada held a faster growth rate during the same period.
In Canada from 2002 to 2003, there was a total increase of 17% of international students coming to study, from almost 60,000 to over 70,000. Among these students, Chinese took up the largest number of students with 5,400 students in 2002 and 7,800 students in 2003, making them the most rapid growth rate of 45%. On the other hand, while Indians showed to be the least abundant in the number of students in Canada, it is clear that more students who originated from India (35% increase) chose Canada to pursue their academic careers than those from the USA with only 9% more of students.
A different picture was seen in the USA during the same period. Even though the overall ratio change was extremely small at only 2%, the actual number of international students in the USA was much larger than that of Canada, at almost 600,000 students in 2003. While Canada was becoming more popular in Indian communities, it was proven that fewer Indian students were interested in the US as a place to study with a decrease of 9% to around 180,000 students in 2003. Chinese students were seen to be the most keen on studying abroad with a rise of 6% to almost 120,000 students in 2003, whereas only around 34,000 Canadian students chose the US as a place to expand their knowledge.
