Essay topics:

All too often, companies hire outside consultants to suggest ways for the company to operate more efficiently. If companies were to spend more time listening to their own employees, such consultants would be unnecessary

In an ideal world, employers need not hire outside consultants to determine ways in which their companies could improve efficiency and productivity. Some are of the opinion that the desire for outside consultation would become obsolete if companies just listened to their employees more. However, this claim is not necessarily correct due to several salient reasons.
The first point to consider is the fact that, in most cases, outside consultants provide an unbiased assessment of a company's operations. They offer solutions irrespective of a hypothetical employee's feelings. Some employees would be hesitant to report to management that a coworker and friend of theirs is not pulling their weight. This kind of concealment provides basis for employers seeking outside consultants. Of course, there is still the probability that a consultant might have friends in a particular client company, but this possibility in not high and it is unlikely to significantly affect a review.
Furthermore, in cases of continuous theft or misappropriation of funds carried out by a few workers in a company, an outside auditor would be the ideal party to recognise such crimes. They are clearly disinterested, and more importantly, possess the knowledge required.
One could argue that statistics which would be used to assess the company and its worker's performance may not always tell the full story, and this is a valid point.
In the end, despite the fact that there are certain benefits to listening to employees over outside consultants, the benefits of hiring outside consultants outweigh such benefits.
