Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? At universities and colleges, sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Many people think that its waste of time for students to contribute at sports and social activities while many others think that it’s necessary for students to take part in such activities. Both may have points but I think active contributing in sports and social activities beside the casual studies and courses is beneficial to universities, colleges and students from various aspects.
Students need to be healthy and happy. Sports and social activities are expected to be done with participation of many students and these activities help students to exercise in regular basis. These two reasons increase the overall health factor among the students who are contributing in such activities. These activities also make students happier because students communicate more and many funny things are likely to occur which is impossible to happen in regular studies and classes. According to latest statistics from IRHO, a local health organization agency, students who are contributing in these activities are 50% less in danger of common diseases.
Many students would continue their career in sports and social activities. Some students who attend these activities would find their interest in sport or even social activities. For example, some may like professional soccer, some others may like to play guitar and others may want to lead a group or even society. Universities and colleges should provide a context which grows students talents, so students would find their own interests and continue their careers in specific fields.
Many universities and colleges achievements are through sports and social activities. As we see many sport teams and social gatherings are under management of popular universities and colleges. More importantly, this approach provides them a lot of money in respect of honors and national and international prestige. This money would spend in universities and colleges infrastructures and research laboratories and projects. For instance, in my university in Mashhad, my professor grant is from the profits of university's soccer team and he spends all of the money in his lab and financial support of his PhD students.
In my view, sports and social activities are essential for a university or for a college in order to have healthier and happier students, grow student’s talents and help them to find their career and these activities are beneficial financially which can be spent on scientific purposes.
