Some people think that sense of competition should be encouraged in children. However, others consider cooperation more important to make them good adults. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.
Some people would argue that children should be encouraged to have a sense of competition, while for others, it is the matter of being cooperative that raises a good adult. In this essay, both of these views shall be discussed along with the author’s personal thoughts.
To begin with, being competitive is a trait often seen in smart, sensitive children, therefore should be encouraged. Competing with other kids would make a child more mature psychologically. Encouraging a child to be competitive, however, has its downside as well. Take moving out at an early age for example. They definitely become more independent that way, but the situation forces the child to grow up too soon, affecting its psychology. The child loses its childhood as a result, eventually causing them to suffer from depression and overthinking.
On the other hand, a cooperative trait helps the child to connect with its friends more easily. Kids with more friends usually have a good social life, and eventually grow up to be better adults. They won’t have to face adult problems as early, and instead, have more positive, optimistic thoughts. In return, however, these kids usually behave childishly, always thinking for others rather than themselves. If not properly raised, these kids could turn out to be manipulated, used, and not capable of claiming their rights.
In conclusion, either a sense of competition or cooperation has certain impacts on a child’s behavior, shaping them into a grown adult who could be either good or bad. I personally side with the cooperative approach, just so that the kid could have a complete childhood, happy time with family, and fulfilled dreams.
