Based on the reading a bookseller named Wilfrid M.Vonich found a manuscript written on vellum which resembles manuscripts written in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The article provides three theories to explain the origin of this script. However, the professor explains that none of the reasons were true and refute each of the author's theories.
First, the author argues that the manuscript is a research on some scientific or magical subject composed in a secret code by Anthony Ascham, a sixteenth-century physician and botanist. In contrast, the professor demonstrates that Anthony Ascham is an ordinary physician and there are no special data in his books, so he had no reason to write a manuscript in a secret alphabet.
Second, the reading passage holds the view that according to other theories, the manuscript is a fake and created to deceive a rich noble and extract money. Nevertheless, The professor illustrates that sixteenth-century people were fool enough to being persuaded easily and there was no need for a manuscript in a complex language like this one.
Finally, the reading asserts that the manuscript is a contemporary fake created by Wilfrid M.Vonich himself to sell it as a secret old book at a high price. The professor opposes this point by saying that by using the modern methods scientist found that the vellum and the ink that are used in the manuscript are four hundred years old.
