TPO-02 - Integrated Writing Task In many organizations, perhaps the best way to approach certain new projects is to assemble a group of people into a team. Having a team of people attack a project offers several advantages. First of all, a group of people
The reading and lecture are both about creation of a group of people to build a new project. The author believes that in many organizations working together as a team has many advantages it possess. The lecturer cast doubts about the claims made in the article. He thinks that working on a project by a group of people has downside such as it will take much longer time to finish a certain project.
First of all, the author points out that collaborating in a team can lead into sharing more insights of knowledge, expertise and skills compared to a single individual crafting on a project. It is mentioned that task can be more easily more accomplished due to many people are involved and a lot of ideas can be shared to the group as a result a highly creative solution to the problem and issues can be furnished. The point is challenged by the lecturer. She says that a company made an observation on the performance of the team and they noticed that it took 6 months perform the assigned task given to them. It took long time to talk about the concerns and many meetings are made and it leads to slower movement of the project to finish. Furthermore, she argues that member of the group don't contribute their knowledge, opinions to solve the task.
Secondly, the author contends that the creative solutions come about because a group is likely to make risky decisions. The article notes that all of the members are aware that they are responsible for the decisions they are casting even if it turns out to be a wrong one. The lecturer rebuts this statement. He suggest that one or two people that are more influential on the group will drastically affect its decision making when they suggest that the idea will not work, the team will follow their lead and will quickly drop the idea.
Finally, the author states that being in a group is rewarding for the members of the team. The article establishes that members who has the confidence to showcase that they possess the ability to decide for the group will certainly feel proud and accomplished. The author also impose that individual person has a more chance to be noticed, due to their contributions and ideas will be highly be appreciated. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that if a group performs well, their performance and talents would not be appreciated by the company. She puts forth the idea if the output of the idea is good and if comes from a single person the recognition will be given to the group and this individual feels bad due to her name was not being recognized for a job well done
