The reading passage and the lecture are both about question of destiny of different fossils which are existing on the market. The author of the snippet believes that both public and scientists will suffer because of the selling fossils to the private collections. On the other hand, the lecturer considers that the statements made in the reading are slightly exaggerated, and she reinforces her opinion by providing several examples.
First of all, there is identified in the reading fragment that public doesn’t have any chances to observe fossils, for example in the museums. However, the speaker asserts that open access to selling or buying fossils bring even greater exposure of fossils. In the other words, schools and universities will be able to purchase some fossils to their classes, and students will have access to them.
The subsequent lecturer’s argument is raleted to the statement made in the excerpt, that if fossils are going to be in the private collections, scientists will miss out some important discoveries without access to them. She disputes this by claimimg that all fossils are identified and investigated by scientists before they pass to the museums or to the private collections. Thus, scientists wouldn’t miss any significant investigations.
To sum up, the professor believes that selling and buying fossils will benefit not only for public organisations, but also for scientists.
