The reading states that the elephant-sized edmontosaur left the harsh winter climate on Alaska's North Slope one hundred million years ago in order to survive. However, the lecturer casts doubt on this claim and says these animals stayed on the same place. He refutes each of the author's specific points by arising several counter-arguments that as listed below.
First of all, the author posits that the edmontosaur escaped the place in order to find food. These animals mainly feed on plants and plants weren't available on this extremely cold winter. Conversely, the professor confutes this hypothesis by stating that there were growing of some plants in the region. He adds that in the past the temperature was warmer than today in the Arctic region, which had created a good condition for plants to grow. Moreover, plants could get benefit from the dead plants and used its natural values to grow in the harsh climate. Therefore, this hypothesis did not convince the professor.
Secondly, the passage points out that there were many edmontosaur remedies have been discovered in different zones as herds. This claim supports the hypothesis of their migration. The professor contends on this premise by explaining that does not mean these animals have lived in herds. The reason behind this discovery because to get extra protection and did not migrate.
Last but not least, the reading hypothesis states that edmontosaurs had a locomotive power that helped them to move to a warmer climate and migrate there. The lecturer argues against this theory by saying that it is not possible for young edmontosaurs to have this power and move for migration. They are still not mature enough to travel. And it is not plausible for adult edmontosaurs leaving their young behind. Therefore, edmontosaurs did not go anywhere and survive in their same place.
All in all, according to the professor, all of the hypothesizes that provided by the author was not convincing enough and edmontosaurs did not leave their region.
