You recently took a part-time job working for a local company. After a few weeks, you realised there were some problems with the job.
Write a letter to the manager of the company. In your letter:
- explain why you took the job
- describe the problems that you experienced
- suggest what could be done about them
Dear Mr Harris,
I am currently working part-time on the factory floor of your company. I appreciated working for your company, but I feel that I must bring a critical issue to your attention.
Firstly, when I was interviewed and given a job here, I was told that my responsibilities would be purely administrative. In other words, I was informed that I would be working in an office environment rather than on the factory floor.
When I arrived for my first day of the work, I was asked to work in the factory just for one day to cover for an absent worker.
However, I have now there for over a week. Whenever I question a supervisor about this, they claim not to know about my position in the office.
As I was offered a different post at the time of the interview, it is illegal and unethical now to force me to work in other areas without disclosing it at the joining time. Additionally, I am unable to carry out any labour duties any further due to strain in my back. I would like you to investigate this matter, and rectify the situation as soon as possible.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
James Smith
