The reading and lecture are both about the settlements of Chaco Canyon and how they were used. The author of the reading believes that they were early buildings of the future. The lecturer casts doubts made in the article. He says that they were building high, because they were just built that way, and served no specific value.
First of all, the author points out that they buildings were very gig and this reminded them about the apartments in the south. It mentions that the apartment buildings in the south were lived in for a long time, and this may have been from the Chaco. The point is challenged by the lecturer. He says that the house had no fireplace. There was no way for them to possibly live in residential.
Secondly, the author contends that the buildings were used as food storage. The article notes that the main crop for the people was grained maize. This could be stored for a long time without rotting. The lecturer rebuts this argument. He says that there was no sign of maize. He elaborates on this by saying that if there was no grain then there was no way that it could be a storage of food.
Finally, the author states that they were used as ceremonial centers. The article establishes on this by saying that they found a lot of broken pots, which meant that after they ate the foods, they threw out the pots. The lecturer disagrees with these statements. He says that the pots used were not used in ceremonies. He establishes on this by saying that most native Americans did not do this.
