The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
The graph provided represents the transportation of amount of goods in the UK through four various types of transport between 1974 and 2002.
Overall, it was observed that there were many fluctuations in the trajectory for all the modes of transport but only a slight increase was seen, while few are at a constant place.
From the general perspective, the transportation of goods through roads raised from 70 million tonnes in 1974 to nearly 100 million tonnes where a sudden elevation was observed in 1994. Comparing water and rail transport as both of them started at approximately 40 million tonnes, the former was found to be raised by about 20 million tonnes and later as at a plateau stage after facing many fluctuations. Finally, the pipeline transport was found to be the least of all modes of transport from 1974 and continued to be the lowest up to 2002. Though it was the minor mode of transport, the path of the graph increased gradually to nearly 10 times, from 2 million tonnes to 20 million tonnes.
In conclusion, all the modes of transport were improved progressively with minor elevations at each stage but, railway transportation remained at the same position from 1974 to 2002 with minute deviations in 1985 and 1995.
