edmontosaurs
Both the reading and the listening are about igration of edmontosaur, which is a dinosour that lived in Earth houndred million years ago. The author of the reading believes that edmontosaurs that lived in Alaska used to migrate to south in a winter time. The lecturer brings the claims made in the article into question. She argues that the very dinosaur cannot migrate in winters at all. In the following passages I am going to introduce the author's view and the speaker's counter view with the relevant explanation.
First of all, the author writes that the edmontosaur's main food was vegetation. It is mentined that in winter's in Alaska there was not a sunlight at all, so edmontosaurs needed to migrate to survive. This argument was challanged by the lecturer. She tells that in that perioud in the summers in Alaska it was a sunligh 24 ours in day. This means that there were enogh vegetation full of nutreans for all winter.
Secondly, it is written in the article that edmontosaurs lived in herds. The author inclined that as most animals living in herds are migrating, the edmontosaurs migrated too. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by asserting that not all animals live in herds to migrate. She brings forth the example of Rosevalk elk which is an animal that live in herds in order to be protected from predators.
Finally, the article notes that edmontosaurs were pretty resistant animals and were able to move in 5km/h speed for a loong time. The author writes that migration for 1600 kilometros would not be a big problem for them. The lecturer, on the other hand, contends that the small edmontosaurs were not as resistant as their parents were. She elaborates on this by mentioning that the small ones would decline the speed of herd that they would not be able to migrate that distance.
To sum up, it can be inferred that there is a contradiction between the ideas of the author and speaker. As it appeared, the lecturer effectively casts doubt on all the claims made in the article.
