The author of the reading and the lecture are both about dinosaurs and if they were endotherms or not. The author of the article believes that dinosaurs were endotherms. However, the lecturer believes otherwise. She believes that dinosaurs were not endotherms.
First of all, the author of the reading points out that the dinosaur fossils were located in very cold polar regions. This shows us that dinosaurs were endotherms, because endotherms were able to adapt to climate. This point is fought by from the lecturer. She states that the polar regions the fossils were located in were not as cold as they are now. In fact, they were warm enough for non-endothermal animals to live in. She extends this by adding that even in the colder months, the dinosaurs would have either migrate or hibernate.
Secondly, the author adds that the dinosaurs grew legs underneath their bodies. The author adds on this by saying that only endotherms can make their legs grow underneath their bodies, in order to make them run faster. This is argued by the lecturer. The lecturer states that the legs underneath their bodies are just to support their weight. She adds that this is the reason why the dinosaurs are so big.
Finally, the author states that the bones of dinosaurs were able to grow fast, because of Haversian canals. This means that they were endotherms, because of rapid growth. The lecturer on the other hand posits that the dinosaurs indeed had Haversian canals, but they also have growth rings. She puts forth the idea by mentioning that the growth rings were the main reasons of rapid growth, not the Haversian canals.
