The graph illustrates about the percetage of total elderly people who are 65 years old and more than that age in some countries, over a 100-year period, between 1940 and 2040.
Overall, elderly’s percentage in Japan, Sweden , and USA have increased although the patterns are fluctuation.
In 1940, USA was the country who had the biggest percentage of elderly people - just under 10% while Sweden was below USA in percentage, 7%. Both percentage of USA and Sweden elderly had increased gradually until 1980. But nearly 2000, elderly in Sweden increased above USA. The prediction onward 2040, Sweden’s elderly will fluctuate but then Sweden will increase in 2030 to be approximately 25% in 2040. However, USA will level off until 2020 and then USA will rise significantly to 23% in 2040.
On the other hand, Japan just had 5% elderly people in 1940. The percentages decreased slightly in 1960, but then increased slightly in 2000. Fantastically, from 2020 to 2040 the percentage for elderly in Japan has been predicted to increase extremely to around 28%, above percentage for sweden and USA.
To sum up, In future, Asian countries, which represent by Japan, have been predicted having many elderly than American or European countries.
