The graph below shows average carbon dioxide

The line chart depicts the amount of carbon dioxide released by each person in four countries including UK, Sweden, Italy and Portugal from 1967 to 2007.

In general, it can be seen that while Italy and Portugal witnessed a steady increase in the quantity of carbon dioxide emissions, there was a gradual decline in the volume of this substance released by British and Swedish people during the 40-year period.

Despite sharing a consistent increase throughout the time mentioned, the amount of carbon dioxide discharged per person differed significantly between Italy and Portugal. The figure in Italy rose tediously from nearly 4.2 in 1967 to about 7.8 metric tonnes in 2007 whereas this number in Portugal went up remarkably from 1.6 to around 5.2 metric tonnes during the same period.

Regarding the United Kingdom, in spite of the sharp decline from nearly 11 metric tonnes in 1967 to 8.8 metric tonnes in 2007, it still remained the leading country in carbon emissions in comparison with the three remaining states. Meanwhile, in Sweden, the figure had reached its peak at 10.2 metric tonnes in 1977 before falling substantially and was equal to that of Portugal with 5.2 metric tonnes in 2007.
