The reading and lecture both discuss Poery's trip to North pole. While the reading provides three reasons to support that trip, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing.
Firstly, the reading avers that the national geographic committee according to poery's record and tools confirms that poery reach the North pole. However, the professor argues this notion saying that this committe is objective and the committee members were poery's friends. So, they funded this trip. Moreover, they could not examine this records carefully. As a result, this geographic committe could not tell the truth.
In addition, the reading mentions that recently, avery made the same trip and he took 37 days. So, this is match with the trip of peary which it took the exact period of time. On the other hand, the professor rejects this idea by pointing out that there is a big difference between the two trip's conditions. For instance, avry did not get food over the plane and he got different weather condition. Moreover, peary's trip was not favorable and it was in a different weather.
Lastly, the reading states that the shadow of peary's photograph is similar to the shadow of North pole. So, that is a good evidence that Peary went to North pole. Nevertheless, the professor contradicts this point by explaining that the technique that used to take that photo is no accurate and it could not to be the exact position in the sNY. Furthermore, the primitive tools have not focus camera. So, this photograph was faded by time and bulired. As a result, we could not calculate the shadow of that photo.
