Given is a line chart representing serious crime rates between 1970 and 2000. It is evident that chart entails four areas namely total violent crime, victimizations reported to police, crimes recorded by police and arrests for violent crimes.
A glance at provided data reveals a dominant stance of total violent crime among four abovementioned areas. Rising from 3.5 thousand commitments in 1978, total violent crime fluctuated somewhere between 3.2 and 3.9 thousand offences, prior to reaching a peak point of 4.5 thousand commitments in 1988. Gradual downward trend was observed for the rest of the period in this figure.
Concentrating on victims’ reports to police, this figure underwent ups and downs for the initial 8 years and plunged to a mere 1.7 thousand offences in 2000.
Nonetheless, general trend in police records of crime and arrests for violent crime faced with exponential upsurge in quantities of commitment. Swelling up from 700 and 250 offences in 1978, recorded crimes and arrests made up 1700 and 700 commitments respectively at the end of the span. Surprisingly, victimizations reported to police’s and crimes recorded by police’s commitment rates were identical for the last 6 years.
