endotherms
The reading and the lecture are both about dinosaurs. The author of the reading asserts that dinosaurs were endotherms and provides 3 reasons of support. The lecturer challenges these claims. She is of the opinion that these are not correct.
First, the writer contends that the fossils have been found in Polar Regions indicate they were endotherms so that they could endure in such cold environments. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. She points out that the appearance of Polar dinosaurs fossils couldn't demonstrate that they were endotherms because first, the Polar region on that time would be warmer than today, furthermore, dinosaurs would migrate or would been hibernate at cooler part of the year.
Secondly, the author argues that the dinosaurs legs position and movement could be an evidence of being endotherms, with mentioning that their legs were under their body in order to physical activities like running. The lecturer, however rebuts this by asserting that the dinosaurs legs position under their body could have another cause. She states that this position could endure more weight so they could have very large size.
Finally, it is states in the article that dinosaurs bones structure had consist Haversian canals as the other endotherms have. This structure allows them to grow fast. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that although they had Haversian canals, they also had growth rings. these rings prove that they had stop growing or slow growing during cooler periods, whereas Endotherms can live in both cool and warm environment because they can preserve internal temperature in any climates.
