The line graph compares the proportion of women elected in parliament in 5 different European nations between 2000 and 2012.
In general, it is clear that the period of time from 2000 to 2012 witnessed an upward trend in quantities in female members in parliament in all 5 countries. Especially there was an intersection between Italy and Germany which paved the way for the first ranking of Italy in the later year and Belgium experienced the fastest growth. In 2000, Germany had the highest percentage of female members of parliament at around 34%, followed by Italy, France and Belgium .The figure for UK was the lowest with approximately 4%. Between 2000 and 2004, there was a dramatic increase in the amount of female workers in parliament in both UK and Belgium. The rest of 3 countries including Germany, Italy and France had increased slightly by 1%,5% and 2% respectively. From 2004 to 2008, UK saw a significant rise from 9% in 2004 to 20% in 2008, which doubled over the four-year period. After that period, in Belgium female workers decreased slightly while the rest of 4 countries kept increase. In 2012, Italy surpassed Germany to reach the peak proportion of woman in parliament at under 40% which was highest in any of other countries while there was the same index in both UK and Belgium with approximately 23%.
