Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would be impossible. First, atmospheric

The lecture and the reading are both discussing about the human survival on the Venus. The reading claims human presence on the Venus is not possible due to extreme conditions and three reasons to support the idea, while the lecture argues that human survival is certainly possible on the Venus.

First of all, the reading states the atmospheric pressure on the Venus is 90 times higher than the Earth. The speaker refutes this point with establishment of floating station 50 km above than the Venus surface. Everyone knows higher the distance lower the pressure. Now pressure at the floating station is equivalent to the atmospheric pressure at the Earth.

In addition, the reading argues that no water reservoir present on the Venus, while the lecture counter this point by stating that we can produce the water by using sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide present on the Venus surface and we can create water reservoir for human survival. The lecture defends this point.

Lastly, the reading states about the very little sunlight on the Venus surface because thick clouds. The lecture counteracts this point by stating that 50 km above the Venus where floating station made, cloud is not thick so it can easily reflects the sunlight on the Venus surface. Another explanation is floating station contains solar plates which reflects sunlight from above and below which we can use to generate electricity.

In conclusion, the speaker created very strong arguments by defeating all the points made in the reading.
