The bar chart provides the information on the percentages of various ways that people in a city used to travel to and from work in 1950, 1970 and 1990.
As can be seen, the number of travelers using car increased significantly from 1950 to 1990, whereas the commuters by bike and foot kept declining during the period.
There was totally more than 70% of travelers who went to and from work by bike and foot in 1950. However, the figure steeply dropped later. The amount of walker fell to below 25%t in 1970 and just above 10% in 1990. It was almost the same situation for the quantity of bikers.
On the other hand, there was a soar in the number of car users. The figure went up enormously from around 5% in 1950 to over 30% in 1970, and then reached more than 40% in 1990. Meanwhile, the amount of people who traveled by bus fluctuated. It started at around 20% in 1950, jumped to roughly 30% in 1970, but then went down to nearly 20% in 1990.
As a whole, car has rapidly become the most popular mean of transport from 1950 to 1990.
