Overall, the percentage of five age groups increased significantly over the period, and the group aged 55-64 was the highest rate.
There was a slight growth in the number of the group aged 55-64 and 47-54 from 3%, 2.5% (1850) to just below 4%, 3% (1990), respectively. The figure stayed the same 2.5% in the 37-46 age group over 50 years from 1850. In 1990, the proportion of the group aged 27-36 appeared just above 2%.
In 1950, the figure for four age groups above rose continuously, and the new appearance of the percentage of the 17-26 age group accounted for nearly 2%. Fifty years later, the proportion of the 55-64 age group reached a peak of 17%, and this group also had the largest figure of jumping about 14%. In 2000, the percentage of 47-54, 37-46, 27-36, 17-36 age groups also grew dramatically and reached their highest point at 13%, 7%, 8%, 5%, respectively.
