The topic that both the reading and the lecture discuss is the encouragement of the certification for the ecologically friendly products. Although the lecture show support of this outgrowing concept, the reading disagree with all the three benefits behind it.
First, the reading explains how the people in the united states do not pay much attention to the advertisements of the considered to be costly products. They do not even value them. However, the professor in the lecture claims that the united state citizen has a good sense of distinguishing between the commercials. They do not treat all the advertisement the same and they will value the eco-certified items for their value and they will encourage the national products like, for example, of the wood companies that have been mentioned.
Secondly, the reading states that the products from the certified wood companies would be more expensive than the uncertified ones. This, according to the reading will deter the consumers from buying them. On the other hand, the professor argues that the difference would not be of a much issue especially if it was not that high in comparable to the cuncertified one. He mentions that if the difference is by five percent, for instance, this will not affect the value of it.
Lastly, the reading refutes that it is a convinsing idea. It says that this would be a sense of importing the products abroad to keep up with the developement that happens abroad instead of selling their products in the national markets. But the professor in the lectrure said thgat this will increase the sencse of the competition, not only pay attention to the consumer itself. Falling behind the pace of the world wide development will make the united state an open market for the world by offering their products inside the states which will affect badly on the national wood product of the domestic companies.
