Meerkat
altruism in human and animals, explained in passage that without expectation of benefit, it shows altruism while lecture contradicts by saying that there is no altruism because we get something in return and it is not selfless act.
this was explained by example of meerkat, a mammal, living in burrows in grassland of Africa. In passage it was said that meerkat’s behaviors as sentinel for their group and protecting them from potential predators by giving alarm cry while speaker says that guarding meerkat gets more chances of escape from predator while others gather together making them vulnerable.
In passage it was stated that sentinel animal remains hungry and he has more risk of getting caught because of alarm sound this point was denied by speaker by implying that closer and detailed study showed that altruist meerkat guards with full stomach and escapes easily. meerkat’s behavior helps other by increasing their chances of survival.
In lecture opposes writer that the person donating kidney like organ to relatives or friends showing his selfless act and in return receive appreciation from society and this becomes valuable to person. The action of donating organs also get something in return.
