In the lecture, the professor talked about the different solutions for preventing wild birds hit on the windows of modern architecture. Disputing the effectiveness of those solutions, the professor pointed out several drawbacks of those solutions to show that they are not as useful as reading passage claimed.
First of all, the professor argued that although the wild birds can't see through the one-way glass, the mirror-like reflection on the one-way glass would still mislead the wild birds. As a result, wild birds would still try to fly through the one-way glass due to they can't figure out the reality of the scene they see in the on-way glass. That is to say, the one-way glass doesn't really reduce the risk of the wild birds hitting on the windows.
Second, the professor cast doubt on the usefulness of the colorful designs on the windows, she mentioned that the wild birds would still try to fly through the openings between the colorful patterns on the windows. In other words, the colorful designs on the windows can't prevent wild birds from hitting on the windows unless the colorful parts of the windows are big enough. However, if the colorful designs are too big, the people in the building won't be able to see the outside by the openings.
On the third point, about the artificial magnetic field can guide the wild birds to escape the buildings, the professor does not believe artificial magnetic field really plays a role. The wild birds use the magnetic field to determine the direction only for the long-distance migration. When they move a short distance, they still rely on their eyes.
