The issue both the reading and the listening focus on is the massive extinction, but the listening casts doubt at three main points.
At the first point, the reading states that at the end of Triassic, the sea level fluctuated. It destroys the population of species that live in the coastal area and shallow ocean. According to the listening, these species are capable of adapting the gradual change of the environment. In addition, the decrease in sea level in this period is gradual.
At the second point, the reading believes that the volcano releases lots of sulfur dioxide into the air. It prompts a climate cooling. On the contrary, the listening argues that this chemical just exists in a short period of time. Raining reduces a great deal of it.
At the last point, the reading mentions that the asteroid strikes the Earth. Its consequence is the period of no sunlight on the surface. However, the listening confirms that there are a little number of scientists who believe in this theory. Because the time that asteroid hit the Earth is too long before the extinction occurrence.
