Summarize the points made in the leacture
The reading states that the animal R. Robustus was a scavenger rather than a hunter and it provides three reasons for it. However, the lecture disagrees with this view and refutes all the three reasons provided.
First, the article claims that R.Robustus was too small to eat some dinosaurs like Psittacosorous. The professor, however, rebuts this by saying that small size doesn't mean that Robustus couldn't eat their prey. She says that size of Robustus -although smaller than a fully grown prey-was almost twice the size of baby psittacosaur, which means it could have eaten a baby psittacosaur.
Second, the article posits that the Robustus was more suited to scavenging than hunting because of its small legs. The professor refutes this by saying that small legs are not sufficient information to claim that Robustus couldn't hunt. The professor provides the example of a modern-day hunter named Tasmanian Devil, who also has short legs like that of Robustus, but can reach a maximum speed of 50km/h. If Tasmanian devils can be a successful hunter, there is no reason why Robustus can not be.
Third, the reading says that fossils records don’t show the teeth mark of Robustus on the prey which means that the Robustus must have swallowed a psittacosaurs egg rather than eating a psittacosaur. Professor refutes this by saying that Robustus swallows its prey rather than eating it. She says that the fossil records show that the Robustus didn’t use its back teeth for eating and no teeth marks are expected on the prey eaten by Robustus.
