Paintings
The facts presented by the passage are not believable as there are lots of arguments that can oppose the passage .The lecture shows three opposing evidences to the passage facts. They are briefly described below.
At first, the painting showed by Whistler’s friend didn’t carry any evidence that it was the Whistler’s painting. At the time of exhibition, there are various paintings. It was not the similar case like of ”Symphony in White” which was for sure to be painting of Whistler. .The painting may be of other painters. Whistler’s friend may have attributed this painting to Whistler after his death but there is not proper evidences about the matter.
Secondly, the painting may resemble in color, arrangements and style of the previous painting “Symphony in White”. But, the same woman on the painting had been used by many other painters .The style was loved by all other painters too. The monochromatic black and white color does not prove that the painting is of Whistler as other paintings are also of same type.
Thirdly, the painting consists of butterfly on the corner as like in Whistler paintings. But, the butterfly is totally in different shape and colors. And the location of butterfly is also different. It is not located on upper left corner as like of Whistler’s painting. The butterfly seems to be painted many years later then the big painting. It seems to be fake as someone is trying to prove the painting by adding the butterfly later to be called as Whistler’s painting.
The passage is not holding the proper evidences on different issues regarding same colors, appearance, style, and the butterfly sign. Thus, the passage is proved false by the lecturer
