The graph below compares figures for the production and consumption of energy in the US from 1950 to 2000. It also predicts figures for 2025.
The given line graph makes a comparison between the energy's production and the energy's demand in the United States, in 50 years from 1950 to 2000; it also predicts the same data up to 2025. All data are expressed in British Thermal Units' quadrillions.
Overall, it's worth noticing that, in the United States, the power's needs never matched the demand, that has always been far superior. While in 1950 and in the seventies the creation of energy was almost balanced, although the production was slightly less since 1980 the gap between the two data skyrocketed. In fact, in 2000 the amount of energy produced was around 50 BTU, with an internal energy demand set around 100 BTU. The overall result of this trend resulted in a huge rise in energy's import.
According to the predictions, this trend is destined to increase, in fact, the domestic energy's production in 2025 will be around 75 BTU's quadrillions, with an internal demand above 125.
