The article and the lecturer discuss the pieces of evidence that demonstrate humpback whales can find their way in seas by looking at the stars. Albeit the article asserts that there are many clues which support this theory, the lecturer has doubts about the article's reasons.
Firstly, the article believes this kind of whale species are smart enough to navigate their way through the seas by using stars. On the other hand, the lecturer illustrates the fact that there are many kinds of other animals like ducks that use stars as a navigation tool while they have an average level of intelligence.
Moreover, the article claims that since the whales move in straight lines, stars are used by them as a navigator. Nevertheless, the professor demonstrates that the whales have the capability to sense the earth's magnetic; therefore, this must be the reason that the whales move in straight line.
Last but not the least, due to the existence of spy-hopping, a phenomenon that humpback whales look to the sky for minutes, the article believes they must use stars for finding their ways. However, the lecturer demonstrates that since this occurrence is happened by other animals for other purposes and this phenomenon is done by the whales at any time like noon when the stars are not visible, so it cannot have any relation to navigating.
