The passage and lecture are auging over ther question wehter Sinosauroptery were a feathered dinosaur. The author of passage lists out three reasons to refuses this argument that Sinosauropteryx had feathers. On the contrary, the lecturer challenges these reasons and she believes thesse reasons are convincing.
Firstly, the author of the passage, mentions that the lines on the fossils of Sinosauroptery bodies have been misprinted after death. In contrast, the lecturer points out these lines were from feathers. She asserts that there is no evidence that other fossils which have been found in this site, have had the same lines on their bodies. Furthermore, she states that the site have provide some conditions to preserve functional structure of the animals. Therefore, these lines were not produced on the dead bodies.
Secondly, the author mentions that these lines are from frills not feathers. On the other hand, the lecturer rebuts this point and she chalenges this claim with some chemical expriments' results. In better words, scientist have found a kind of protein which is existed for feather not frills. Therefore, this protoein proves that this dinasours have feathers not frills.
Finally, based on the passage, the places of the lines on the fossils have been printed on the backbone and tail of Sinosauropteryx while these places are not proper place for fethers functions like flight or regulating body temperature. The lecturer, however, rebuts it and she asserts that feathers have another function and some animals use feathers for attracting mates. Moreover, there is some evidence that these feathers were orange and white. Hence, there is no doubt that these dinosaurs used these feathers for mating.
In a nutshell, the passage refuses that Sinosauropteryx were feathered animals, while the lecturer holds opposit view.
