The table below gives information about UK independent films. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The table illustrate the number of films released in different genre and the income they generated from ticket sales in UK and the Republic of Ireland for the year 2012.
It is clear from the table that table that although most of the films were produced in the Drama and Documentary category, they were not the most financially successful one; while on the surprising note, the greatest ticket sales came from comedy genre which produced far less films. Another notable feature of the information present in the table is that out of all genres Biopic was the most successful category having the highest income per number of films released.
Looking at the table we can see that Documentary and Drama were the most prolific category with 35 films released followed by comedy films that contributed a total of 26 films to the film industry. However, on the financial side despite having myriad of films made Documentary and Drama gather only 12% of the total ticket sales combined. By contrast, most of the revenue in ticket sales came from comedy films which gathered an impressive proportion of 45.4% of all the income from tickets.
Talking about other genre, although Horror and Thriller produced similar number of films 14 and 13, respectively, Horror earned significantly more than Thriller category accounting for just over a one-fifth of the total sales while Thriller made only 1.3% of total sales. Other categories made fewer than 10 films nor were they able to make any substantial amount of income. However, Biopic is an exception having made only one film it was the most profitable category making nearly one-tenth of the total sales.
