Integrated essay TPO 26
The article declares that zebra mussel spreading out from its original habitats and its invasion cannot be stopped which creates a serious problem to the freshwater fish populations in all of North America and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that there are many ways to control the growth of the zebra mussel population and we are not clear that it is a serious problem and refutes each of the author's reasons.
To begin with, the reading states that the zebra mussel invasion is uncontrollable. On the other hand, the lecture contradicts this point by stating that there are many affecting ways to carry zebra mussel to a different location. He explains that the ship is used to carrry zebra mussel is filled with freshwater instated we can use ocean saltwater which killes the zebra mussel population.
Furthermore, the article claims that if the zebra mussel carried to new habitant they don't have predators so there have more chances that they will dominate. Nonetheless, the professor says that they don't have predators in the beginning only. Once the other animals know about change was occurring in the environment they will adapt to new eating habits and birds can eat many zebra mussels.
Finally, the reading claims that zebra mussels will decline the fish population when they become dominant. The professor says that zebra mussel produces the nutrient which can be food for the bottom eater fish, so their population will increase. The plant-eating fish population will indeed decrease.
