Overall, there are many noticeable fluctuations among the genres that received Oscar awards such as Thriller, Documentary, Romance. From 2003 to 2008, while the proportion for Oscar winners in Thriller and Horror had a tendency to fall lightly, the respective figures in the others seemed to increase.

At the same time, horror films also had a decline from about 15% in 2003 to only 10% left in 2008 that made them become the second-lowest in the total share of winners in Oscar competitions.
However, the other sections such as Documentary, Romance, Science Fiction, Action all had a slight rise between 2003 and 2008.
