The chart shows the average class size in six countries and compares it with the world average class size in 2006.
The bar chart compares the number of students in a class between the elementary school and the lower secondary school in different nations and the world average in 2006.
Overall, it is clear that the class size in the 8-14 age group was bigger than that of the remaining group. Besides, while both Denmark and Iceland had smaller class sizes than the world average, the remaining nations were bigger.
In 2006, classes for children from 5 to 8 years old in South Korea and Japan contained approximately 31 students, which was higher than both the UK and Mexico, at only exactly 25 students. However, the class size considerably increased in South Korea and Mexico for children between 8 to 14 years old, at about 41 and 34 pupils, respectively, which was higher than the remaining countries and the world average.
In Denmark and Iceland, children who aged from 5 to 8 studied in classes having nearly 18 students, which was higher than the world average, at 19 people. In terms of the lower secondary schools, while Denmark’s class size was 19, the figure for Iceland was 17.
